LEI begins 5th year of creative writing programming for youth
Lake Erie Ink is thrilled to begin our 5th year of programming. It’s appropriate that this is our wood anniversary…we continue to be vital, solid and growing.
LEI grew out of the many years that co founders, Amy Rosenbluth and Cynthia Larsen had been providing creative writing programs for youth in the communities on the east side of Cleveland. During the 2010-2011 school year, they facilitated four Library Writers Clubs to students in grades 4-12 as an expansion of the work they had been doing in the classrooms. The library clubs were a hit. Young writers continued to show up and ask for more.
Since opening our own doors in 2011, LEI has worked with more than 3,000 young writers throughout greater Cleveland! Inspired and nurtured by the stories of the youth that Amy and Cynthia heard during the creative writing programs they ran in local schools and libraries, LEI has been involved in more than 20 different school communities throughout Cleveland,
Each year, since then, we have hosted a few more programs, helped kids craft a few more poems and heard a few more stories. We have supported high school students as they struggle to find the right topic for their college essay, encouraged fledgling fiction writers finish their novels during NaNoWriMo month and inspired teachers to take a different approach to an assignment.
Thanks for being part of our story and we look forward to working with your kids this coming year.
