A child’s birthday party
Or Dia de Los Muertos?
I asked myself this many times
While in the supermarket
I’ve seen my hermanos and hermanas
Being picked off the shelves like cattle
And although I see myself
As equal to ancestors
I do consider myself lucky
For as you see…
I am nothing but 7 inches tall
Most people will not use me
As my intended purpose
And will most likely use me as decoration
For that stupid made up holiday
Taco tuesday
And even though it may not be today
Or tomorrow
Heck it might not be a few years from now
But I know I will be put on the chopping block
Filled with sweet treats
Just to be broken apart
But in my dying breath I will say this and only this
It’s not pronounced pinyada It’s pronounced pinyata
