Lake Erie Ink’s Weekend Ink workshop in November takes a trip to the woods for an inspirational hike led by a nature center environmental educator and a writing workshop that will blend storytelling, theatrical exercises, and (of course!) writing featuring guest artist Gail Nyoka.

Gail Nyoka is a storyteller, author and award-winning playwright. Mella Mella, a play for young audiences, won the Chalmers Canadian Play Award, and has been performed at several theaters. She was a 2015/16 Nord Foundation Playwright Fellow at Cleveland Public Theatre. Her children’s novel, Mella and the N’anga: An African Tale, was shortlisted for the Governor General’s Award, and others in Canada and the US. Her new young adult novel, Star’s Reflection, is set in ancient Egypt and is available in audio and book format.
This workshop takes place at the Shaker Lakes Nature Center at 2600 S. Park Blvd. in Shaker Heights. Pre-registration is encouraged at lakeerieink.org/register.
Weekend Ink is a series of creative expression workshops for all ages where youth explore fun genres with guest artists and writers. Weekend Ink is supported in part by the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture.
