For Teachers
Check out our new (and free) resource for teachers, playing with a purpose!
There are so many demands on teachers and students alike, that sometimes creative writing loses its place in the school. Creative writing motivates students because it is personal, relevant and imaginative.
Students who have the opportunity to write creatively develop more fluency and confidence as writers. Lake Erie Ink supports writing in your classroom with professional development for you and classroom workshops for your students.
To bring Lake Erie Ink to your school or organization, contact Program Director Jill Levin at 216-320-4757 or jlevin@lakeerieink.org.
Play with a Purpose
Play with a Purpose, a series of videos exploring themes of racial equity and social justice hosted by Amy Schwabauer, is a free classroom recourse for English and History curriculum. Using creative story play and literacy enrichment, our teaching artists will bring to life stories and poetry written by BIPOC. Although geared for kids in grades k-2, these videos are sure to inspire and engage audiences of all ages. Click here to see our full video list and associated study guides.
Professional Development
Lake Erie Ink believes that teachers who write are better able to teach their students. We offer on and off site professional development in writing across the curriculum. Check our calendar for writing workshops for teachers at Lake Erie Ink, or call us to schedule a workshop at your school or organization.
Bring Lake Erie Ink to Your School
Invite Lake Erie Ink to your school or organization! Lake Erie Ink supports school teachers by collaborating with them on writing projects that fulfill and exceed the educational state standards, meeting the needs of teachers and students both academically and developmentally. Projects may be thematically integrated or genre-based. In-school collaborations vary in duration and support the entire writing process. Volunteers from Lake Erie Ink provide extra support as writing coaches during revision. Projects often culminate in publication, performance or presentation.
