Summer may be coming to a close but we’ve still got a couple tricks up our sleeves! Take at look at three exciting programs built to make the final weeks of summer last.
Comics Week
With two different programs to get your comic jam on, Comics Week promises to get you writing, drawing, and having fun!
Comics Week will run August 3rd-August 6th. Open to 4th-8th grade. Register for one or both. $40 for each. Scholarships are available: for more information on scholarships, email arosenbluth@lakeerieink.org!
Write the World
In this exciting new program youth ages 13+ will have the opportunity to learn and write about the world! Refine your craft in a fun and engaging way. Write the world is a free workshop.
Grades 4-8 | 3:30-5:00 PM | Every day August 3-6 | $ 40 (for the week)
Create fascinating and unique hybrid creatures. Craft your own lore for these uncanny beasts of your creation! Explore the weird and fascinating history of hybrid creatures in mythology, experiment with your own ideas, draw an original creature and its habitat, and write a comic about its adventures. Artist Od Perry-Richardson will take you on this fantastical comics landscape.Scholarships are available.
Grades 4-8 | 5:30-6:30 PM | Every day August 3-6 | $ 40 (for the week)
Create comics about your own life! Explore ways to use a comics journal as a place of creativity, a way to process your thoughts, and a companion to your daily life. Materials needed: an empty composition or spiral notebook, your favorite pen, and either notecards or blank paper you can tear into notecard-sized pieces. Inspired by Lynda Barry’s book Making Comics, artist Matt Haberbusch will take you through a creative journey to start you journaling and drawing in a new way.

Become part of a global community of teen writers. Write, share and publish on Write the World. Write the World is an online global community, where teen writers can publish their work and refine their craft through a regular writing routine. LEI will guide youth using WTW in this free 3 week program which meets on Wednesdays, August 5, 12 and 19th, from 3-4:30 pm. Between sessions, youth will be encouraged to engage daily in writing through WTW. Open to youth ages 13 & up.
