Green Tail Deer
By Alicia at Fairfax School
I have discover the green tail deer in South America.
It had a bushy green tail, dark brown spots, four long legs.
Its soft and bushy.
It sounds like a little water fall like this SSSSSSSS.
It smelled fishy.
It lived in a forest with the trees, bushes, and grass.
The deer eats hemlock, trees, and orchids.
It’s a herbivore.
The enemy is a tiger, jaguar, and crock.
The animal that helps it is the bird to clean its fur.
The bird is called the South American green Cleaning Bird.
It runs faster than any animal.
It camouflage in bushes and trees.
The ears are branches, dark spots as holes.
That’s what I discover in South America.
Cleveland vs. L.A.
By Fiona and Emma at Communion of Saints School
LA: While the sun shines all day
Clev: Ours has gone away
LA: We go to the beach all day
Clev: We’re stuck with a snow day.
LA: While famous people roam the streets
Clev: We get numb feet
LA: We get ice cream and treats
Clev: While icecles hang from the trees
LA: While my weather is hot
Clev: Ours is -11
Both: we are loved the same
Both: But we both have different fame
Both: We are loved in our own special way
8th Grade Girls, Similar but Different
By Ming Wei P. and Courtney F. at Communion of Saints School
I live in China I live in USA
We have characters We have letters
We both go to school We both hate it
We always look nice We’re often discombobulated
We both love texting!
I love soy milk I love pizza
We both love Harry Potter
I am awake While I am asleep
I never see snow I see too much snow
I learn English I learn Chinese
Most of us don’t have pets I have a lot of pets
We both express pain, love, and joy
I am Chinese 我是中国人 I am American.
but we are similar
Heal the World
By Rosie D, 4th Grade, Communion of Saints School
Heal the world, to the way it was
It was in ancient times
The plants grew free
The animals flee
They were out of the zoo
Like me and you
They were free and wild
Not tame, but mild
I wish we had kept the world this way
Then everyone would be happy everyday
If everyone was happy you would be too
So look on posters, signs, and websites
To see what you can do
The Sky
By David L. at Communion of Saints
The sky sits so high I’m afraid I can’t even touch it.
Never the same
I don’t know who to blame.
Sometimes clear, sometimes cloudy,
The sky speaks to the world so very loudly.
The clouds ever moving
oh so soothing.
I guess I won’t be able to touch the sky
until I can fly!
This Place
By Natalie N. at Communion of Saints
This place, this warm inviting sanctuary
The piano in the back,
Aged with memories.
The pictures surrounding the room
Pull you into a whirlwind of memories,
Crisp with color.
The giant couch sets the classic idea,
The idea of family together.
And next to this an old chair
Filled with its own memories.
A coffee table stained
With the haloes of coffee
Brown and beautiful in my eyes.
The smell of apple cinnamon fills the air
As the golden flames of the
Small candle and large fire dance joyfully,
Yet outside the canopies
Of snow grabbing the black trees tell you, silently,
This is where I belong.
This place, this warm inviting sanctuary.
Beta Fish
By Mara T. at Canterbury
A beta fish swims
and flutters its fins
Happy and sometimes sad
Blue and purple
my favorite colors
I can almost see through you
Your Mohawk is cool and beautiful
It blends into you
and help you to steer
Your gills are kind of creepy
You are the best fish I ever had.
Swimming
By Cameron B. at Canterbury
My toes smoosh together
at the end of the diving board
and are ready to spring and dive.
Smack!
Splash, splosh, splatter
hitting the water
Kaboom!
Kicking splashing
floating on my stomach
stretching my arms
I swim like a goldfish
Bobbing my head like a duck
I reach for the ladder
and climb out
and get back on the board
and dive!
Tiger
By Sydney T. at Canterbury
My coat is orange
as a burning sun
on a hot summer day.
My fur is smooth
as a baby’s skin.
My teeth are as sharp
as a knife
My back is as bony
as a skinny old woman.
I yip and growl
at my cubs.
I hunt my prey
slowly creeping.
I snap at mice and birds.
Furry
Crunchy
Bloody
Juicy
Delicious!
Ode to Steak
By Angelo B. at St. Rocco School
Oh steak,
you are so delicious
especially with mash potatoes on the side.
When you’re on the grill sizzling.
The way the juice stays in the meat and keeps it juicy.
When you’re with mash potatoes you taste so good.
The way you satisfy my taste buds.
How I can have it every day for every meal.
My dad makes it so juicy and he buys it from the West Side Market.
He gets it from a stand called Fernangles.
That’s where my brother works
and the meat is always cut right in front of you.
All the meats are good especially the steak.
