Mac’s Backs and Lake Erie Ink are sponsoring a booksigning event with Miami Heat coach Caron Butler and author Justin Reynolds for their new book Shot Clock. The event will take place on Saturday, September 10th at 2 pm at Pekar Park, 2785 Euclid Heights Blvd in Cleveland Heights.

Kids will meet Caron Butler and Justin Reynolds to get their book signed while participating in “Buzzer Beating Poetry.”  There will be a portable basketball hoop at Pekar Park and kids will play ball and write poems that make points. Lake Erie Ink will put on a clinic for poets and ballers — all ages and levels of skill are welcome. Balls and ballpoint pens supplied!

ABOUT SHOT CLOCK

Former NBA All-Star Caron Butler and acclaimed author Justin A. Reynolds tip off the first book in a new middle grade series about a young boy trying to make his mark on an AAU basketball team coached by a former NBA star in his hometown. Perfect for fans of The Crossover and the Track series.

Tony loves basketball. But the game changed recently when his best friend, Dante, a hoops phenom, was killed by a police officer. Tony hopes he can carry on Dante’s legacy by making the Sabres, the AAU basketball team Dante took to two national championships.

Tony doesn’t make the team, but Coach James likes what he sees from Tony at tryouts and offers him another chance: join the team as the statistician. With his community reeling and the team just finding its footing on the court, can Tony find a path to healing while helping to bring the Sabres a championship?

Kyra is attending John Carroll University majoring in English (concentration on professional writing) and minoring in Psychology.

Kyra’s love of writing brought her to LEI!

“When I was in school K-12, there were never any resources or writing/reading clubs or groups that would allow me to become a better writer. I wanted to work with children who shared the same passions that I had as a child and help them be the best writers that they can be!”

Kyra’s experiences have piqued her interest in working maybe not with, but for children. Kyra foresees a possible children’s book in her future!? Either way, Kyra, we wish you well in your future endeavors!

Sophia is attending Bowling Green State University where she is majoring in Creative Writing with minors in Chinese and Japanese. Sophia learned about LEI through her mother and wanted to help others develop their love of reading and writing.

“I’ve really enjoyed my experience so far, the kids I’ve worked with in Pride Outside, Inside Out, and Young Novelists are all very bright and eager. It’s an honor and a great opportunity to get to help and watch them grow into writers and help to nurture their love of writing and reading while connecting to others like minds.” Thanks Sophia, wishing you all the best as you continue your studies!

Darius is attending Hiram College, studying creative writing with a minor in history. Darius was recommended to Lake Erie Ink through his advisor and thought it sounded like a unique opportunity. “I felt like this was a great opportunity to get out of my comfort zone and do something different.” Having not worked or taught young students before, Darius enjoyed getting to actively engage and help students during his time. We thank Darius for his commitment to creative writing and a desire to help young students succeed. Best wishes to you on your next steps Darius!
