They call me the tree climber
the high jumper, the beat bumper,
they call me king candy,
I’m the basketball king,
a ninja turtle machine.

They call me
the super hero
because I am a superhero to everyone
is in danger and
I am going to save
them because you
know that I know
that they know
I am a superhero
The Storm
By Rebecca, from Inkspot
The wind howling like a wolf
The rain pouring out of the clouds like water from a faucet
Thunder sounding like fireworks
Lightning flashing like stars
The clouds part like tearing paper
The sun comes out
My Name
By Elly, from Inkspot
My name is Elly
My name is not Eli
People call me Elly
My name sounds like the whistle of the wind,
The cry of a lamb and the scream from a train.
My name remembers the death of my grandfather
and the courage of my uncle.
My name is heard when my brother screams when he’s mad,
from the announcer when I score a goal
and from my siblings every time I talk to them.
My name brings kindness and fun.
My name means quiet spring.
Who I Am
By Daniella K., from Inkspot
I am Artistic and smart.
I wonder if humans will still be on earth past 3000.
I hear the clouds pushing and squeezing the sun into night.
I want a great life before it ends for me.
I see leaves into feathers as fall sets.
I am Artistic and smart.
I pretend I am painting like a famous artist.
I feel the fluffiness of clouds in my hand when I sleep.
I touch the sun and am energized for the day.
I worry that something extremely bad will happen in the future.
I cry when I watch Flicka.
I am Artistic and smart.
I understand how someone feels when someone or something dies.
I say humans will stay on earth for a long time.
I dream about weird and action-filled things.
I try to be good at playing violin.
I hope I will have a good future.

Pancake
My bunny pancake is so fat.
She runs, sneezes, and eats like a person.
Pancake can feel happy, sad, and mad like a person.
If she could speak she would say many things.
She’s a light brown color like a pancake.
She’s really fat like a giant pancake.
If she jumps to a place she likes, she will lay down.
She loves to play around the house.
She loves to play with wooden toys.
She loves to eat, eat, and eat all day and all night.
– Ha’mya O.
I am…
the voice of the stars in the sky.
That’s why they call me angels in the sky.
I also love to dance, most of the time
people think I have ants in my pants.
Sometimes I can be the gossip queen,
but most people see me as mean.
I also love to sleep, sometimes too deep.
I love llamas. That’s my poem.
– Happy Llama, aka Kayla R.
The dog looked out the door
and said, “Let me out,
I have to pee“
No one would let him out
So he started to sing
He started to sing the song, “Drip, Drop”
He said, “Drip, drop, drip-drip-drip,
Drop”
When no one heard him
He sat down
Turned on the T.V. and put on
Empire
Then he went to the kitchen
And made cupcakes
– Jade S.
Bad Habits:
an Addiction;
a cut to the vein
a smoke because the pain
a purge to stop the gain
an addiction is an addiction
because it all hurts the
same.
– M.W.
Her
Dedicated to M.W.
She listens
To my every word
She cares,
Even when I become absurd
She glistens
With her big green eyes
She loves me
Which comes as a big surprise
– Stephanie V.
Lake Erie Ink engaged in quest for social justice: Station Hope & Tolerance Fair
Lake Erie Ink participated in both Station Hope and the Tolerance Fair in May. Our students performed at Station Hope, which was created in partnership with St. John’s Church and The Episcopal Diocese of Ohio, Friends of St. John’s Church, Restore Cleveland Hope and the Cozad Bates House, Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, The City of Cleveland, Cleveland State University, and over 25 participating arts groups and individuals from the Northeast Ohio region.
Station Hope is a FREE, one-night-only multi-arts event that celebrates the triumphs of the Underground Railroad, the history of St. John’s Church and the contemporary struggles for freedom and justice. April 26, 2014 6:00pm-10:00pm, St. John’s Church (2600 Church Street in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland). Learn more about Station Hope here.
On May 3rd, Lake Erie Ink joined over 100 local non-profits at the Tolerance Fair at the CSU Wolstein Center. The Tolerance Fair is an event that inspires people to find communities for belonging, creates passion that results in self worth, and promotes education to overcome ignorance: all components necessary for tolerance and acceptance of self and others.
Snowflakes and People
Snowflakes and People, by Jarell
Snowflakes are beautiful in a way people are not
People are beautiful in a way snowflakes are not
People and snow are inspiring to others
And people who love others,
People never forget
This World
by Tracy from Teen Ink
Imagine this world of cries, laughs and happiness
people complaining, quarreling, fighting
could one bear to live in it
on the other side
from the bottom
to the root
struggling to grow
among nature
this world, the insects gather for survival
the land full of dust and scattered plants
the grass grows to hide the trash
the sun pierces the skin like coal
and when done
the sky takes it’s own
at the perfect time to the human mind
to a light buzz in your head
the humans in the lonely dark
boom boom
it goes inside beating faster and faster
when exhausted, it relaxes.
