My name means happiness. My name was given to my by my father and mother. Usually people think that my name is Clarissa. Some people says Larissa in English is like “laugh.” Only, two people call me by my other name Benth. I have never met people with the same name. It makes me feel special. I like the names. My name remembers that I was the first son in my family.

by Michelle, written at LEI with Jovenes en Accion, Cleveland Council on World Affairs
My name is Michelle. It’s a common name, some people say. I wouldn’t like to be called in another way. My name means, “God’s just.”
My mom thought about many names, but she did good at choosing Michelle because it’s easy to remember, but not only that is my name, my second name is Luette.

My name is Yulissa
by Yulissa, written at LEI with Jovenes en Accion, Cleveland Council on World Affairs
My mother says that she listened to my name in a novel and liked her name because when people call me “Yuli” it’s like I were a close friend. My name is blue. It’s really easy and fast to pronunciate. Many people remember my name. The dictionary says that it means girl with soft hair, but I don’t think so. For me, my name means “sugar.” And for everybody, I want my name to mean “friend.”

My name is Paola. My name means little girl. My name was given to me by my mom. My name is a memory of my mom’s friend. All the time when I say my name to somebody new, they say, “Paola o pa Manana” which in English means “for today or tomorrow.” I have two names. The other name is Christina. I like both, so I like it when the people call me with both. My mom and I have the same name “Christina” and means something about the catholic religion. I really like my last name…”Monrey.”

My name is the name of a Tlatoani (a pre-hispanic governor) of Mexico of the Aztec culture. My father gave me this name because he says that it’s the name of a warrior. It’s not a common name, and it’s good, because I’m not a common person.

by Andrea, written at LEI with Jovenes en Accion, Cleveland Council on World Affairs
I don’t know what it means, but I like it. My second name is Violeta. My parents decided on that name because my mom’s name is Violeta too. Violeta means a color, like a purple. It also means a flower.
My name makes me remember my mom, of course.
I don’t know more about my name, just that my dad wanted my name to be Daniela, but my mom said no because his and my brother’s name is Daniel, so my name is Andrea.

So far away from home is my mom,
The woman who gave me this name
It was January 14 when I got this name Gil, a catholic name
My mother found this name in a Catholic Calendar. She found it as bright as a star. The next day my mom told my father, but my father did not agree, so he decided to name me Gil Uriel…two catholic names that up to now I don’t know what it means.
I only know that Uriel means “light of God.” So, I am happy to have and use this name for everything.
I am from Toluca, Estado De Mexico (my school), but I live in Metepec, which is a small town near Tolucca.
