If you are interested in the Write About Now program (more information here) join us for an Open House on Tuesday, January 7th from 5-6pm at the Cleveland.com newsroom (1801 Superior Ave., Cleveland OH). Cleveland.com journalists and professionals will be available to help you learn about the program.
What is write about now? Workshops will be held at the Lee Road branch of Cleveland Heights Public Libraries January 16 and January 23, 3:30 PM - 4:30 PM. January 21, 2020Calling all TEEN writers! For 10 Tuesdays during Winter 2020, students in grades 8-12 will work with writers at cleveland.com to learn about and engage in journalism projects, ultimately working to publish original work on their site. Students will have use of chrome books for the session and receive a stipend upon completing the 10-week session with a publication. Bus passes and food are provided. Free parking.

January 29, 2020There is one element of the college application process that lets students stand out among the slew of quantitative information (i.e. GPA, test scores, and the number of college prep courses on your transcripts). That is, the personal statement. Yet sitting down and writing the paragraphs that are meant to represent you so well can be a challenging task for many. Well, dread no more! Lake Erie Ink is here to help.
Lake Erie Ink hosts college essay workshops for college-bound students. During the sessions, youth will identify the stories that make them unique and learn to express them in a compelling way – all while receiving assistance from experienced writers.

January 30, 2020Join us for the Annual Teen Poetry Slam! Hosted by Heights Libraries, Lake Erie Ink, & Heights High, the slam is open to all high school students. Performers will compete for a panel of guest judges and should have three or more poems ready for the competition. Register by emailing teen@heightslibrary.org.
This year the slam will be judged by Cleveland Heights University Heights superintendent Liz Kirby and Cleveland Heights poet laureate Damien McClendon among others. Emceeing the event will be 2 long-time inkers New Genesis, a sibling hip-hop and poetry duo.

February 29, 2020The Comic Con Afterparty (5-8 pm) is a TEENS ONLY (meaning 6th-12th grade) program which includes a panel on making “change” with comics (social change and $$$). We will also be holding a Cosplay Fashion Show, a 'Zine exchange, and much more. To participate in the 'Zine exchange, bring 5-10 copies of your 'Zine!
This year we are ecstatic to be joined be Terri Libenson for our panel! Terri is a professional author and cartoonist best known for her internationally syndicated daily comic strip, The Pajama Diaries. She is also a big Star Wars fan. Learn more about her here.
