Lake Erie Ink Awarded Roslyn Z. Wolf Award by NCJW!
We are honored to have been awarded the 13th Annual Roslyn Z. Wolf Award by the Wolf Family and the National Council of Jewish Women! This award is given annually to a nonprofit organization in Greater Cleveland that demonstrates outstanding contribution in the areas of youth, families, and education.
The 2019 Roslyn Z. Wolf Award will support Lake Erie Ink’s Amplify Project, a year-long creative expression project that will take place in libraries and schools in East Cleveland where literacy levels are some of the lowest in the area. Lake Erie Ink will engage with youth and families in the East Cleveland community in creative literacy skill-building programs. As a result of participating in these programs, youth will develop writing fluency as well as build confidence and a greater sense of self socially and academically.
Thank you to the NCJW for the recognition and funding for a program we care so much about.
Cleveland.com and Lake Erie Ink Collaborate on program for teen writers…Write About Now!
From the cleveland.com article by Laura Johnston:
“Late cleveland.com reporter Nikki Delamotte was dedicated to mentoring young writers at Lake Erie Ink. To honor her memory, cleveland.com is launching a program with the nonprofit youth writing organization, welcoming teenagers into our newsroom.
Write About Now is a 10-week program for a dozen eighth-graders through high school years, to learn about journalism from cleveland.comreporters and editors, experiment with writing and publish their own perspectives on cleveland.com.
“I think it’s really meaningful to be able to offer something that’s concretely a link to Nikki,” Lake Erie Ink Executive Director Amy Rosenbluth said. “We’ve been given this extension into a new community of journalists, and a new opportunity. I think the kids will respond.”
Write About Now will meet Tuesday afternoons, beginning in September, at the cleveland.com newsroom. Each week, one journalist will speak to the group, then reporters and editors will work one-on-one with students, on whatever they want to write – news, creative nonfiction, fiction.
Any student can apply for Write About Now, through Lake Erie Ink. Interested students and their parents can attend an open house at the cleveland.com newsroom, 1801 Superior Ave. in Cleveland, on June 11 or Aug. 14. For more information, email ljohnston@cleveland.com.”
